Our Purpose

Itaconic acid is a natural molecule produced within the biochemistry of our bodies and in the plant world. Its value is derived in part from its superior performance profile. The unique combination of three functional sites, as opposed to the two sites in acrylic acid molecules, offer multi-functional benefits for polymers made from itaconic acid.

Itaconic acid is also safer to handle and use relative to acrylic acid and styrene. Produced via industrial fermentation and widely available on the open market, itaconic acid has been used for years across industries to make polymers.

No one succeeded at developing a commercially viable method to polymerize itaconic acid, however, until Itaconix. With our patented technology, we are able to create plant-based polymers that seamlessly replace acrylates and styrene in everyday products.

Our Vision

Our path to being a large specialty ingredients company centers around the value and potential of itaconic acid. We bring in itaconic acid and run it through our proprietary process to make valuable ingredients with potential uses in many applications.

From cleaning, hygiene, and beauty, to paints, crop micronutrients, scale inhibition, and more, our technology platform has about a $20 billion potential market. Currently, we have products that can address about a $2.3 billion portion of this potential.

Our Progress

Our proprietary technology platform generates a broad range of valuable ingredients that deliver performance, affordability, and renewability to a broad and growing range of end products.

To date, we have used itaconic acid polymers to develop 17 different products protected by 16 patent families. Itaconix polymers can be found in brands and major retailers across many industries throughout North America, Europe, and increasingly around the rest of the globe.
