History of Innovation
Itaconix was founded in 2008 by John Shaw and Dr. Yvon Durant, with the goal of developing plant-based polymers of itaconic acid.
Dr. Durant developed a commercially viable method to polymerize itaconic acid using the principles of green chemistry. Itaconix succeeded in introducing a plant-based alternative to polyacrylate. Beginning with eco-friendly detergent companies, we expanded into other applications where our ingredients' performance and safety advantages add value.
Since then, our development of strategic applications has culminated in a pivotal role as a leader in next-generation ingredients and formulated solutions in both home care and industrial. Continuing research has identified opportunities in superabsorbents, paints, coatings, solvents, and more.
