Plant-based chemistries that contribute to a more sustainable world

Everyday consumer products can exist in balance and harmony with nature and protect our environment.

We envision new generations of high-performance consumer products that make the world a better and safer place. Our ingredients will contribute to this change in the way that they are produced, transported, used, and disposed of. They will be less toxic to humans and the environment. They will not persist in the environment. They will contribute to rebalancing the planet’s carbon cycle to maintain the continuity of all lifeforms.

Nature provides solutions for a better and safer world without burdening consumers or society. We are dedicated to advancing the unique functionality of itaconic acid as a base for plant-based, sustainable solutions that do not compromise on performance or cost. Itaconix will continue to work For Nature with Nature.

History of innovation

Itaconix was founded in 2008 by John Shaw and Dr. Yvon Durant, with the goal of developing plant-based polymers to replace fossil-based acrylates.

Dr. Durant developed a commercially viable method to polymerize itaconic acid using the principles of green chemistry and green engineering. Itaconix succeeded in introducing a plant-based alternative to polyacrylate. Beginning with eco-friendly detergent companies, Itaconix expanded into other applications where its ingredients' performance and safety advantages add value.

Since then, Itaconix's development of strategic applications has culminated in a pivotal role as a leader in high performance, environmental-friendly cleaning, beauty and hygiene ingredients, formulas and products.

Continuing research has identified opportunities in superabsorbents, paints, coatings and solvents

Rooted in sustainability and innovation, our growth trajectory has been marked by a consistent 40% annual growth. With global brands used by millions of households and a focus on a $5 billion addressable market, Itaconix thrives on continuous innovation and commitment to a safer, greener world.
